Silver metal braces are the most common type, and are more comfortable today than ever. Made of high-grade stainless steel, metal braces straighten your teeth using metal brackets and archwires.
With metal braces, you have the option of adding colored “o” tie elastics for a more unique and colorful smile.
Gold braces are an attractive alternative to traditional metal braces. They are stainless steel with a 24-karat gold electoplated coating that is beautiful. Just like silver braces, you have the option of adding colored ‘o” ties and elastics (rubber bands) for a more unique and colorful smile.
Ceramic braces are made of clear materials and are therefore less visible on your teeth than metal braces. For this reason, they are used mainly on older teenagers and adult patients who have cosmetic concerns.
Though they are visually less prominent, they require more attention to oral hygiene, since ceramic braces are more brittle than their metal counterparts. For these reasons, ceramic braces tend to be used more on upper front teeth than on lower teeth.
Invisalign and N-Line Aligners
Clear aligners are a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable acrylic trays that straighten your teeth like braces. Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment; plus, brushing and flossing are less of a hassle.
The aligners are comfortable and have no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment. We are extremely experienced with clear aligner treatment, having treated more than 600 Invisalign patients since 1999, with cases published in the 2014 ®Invisalign Gallery publication.
Therefore, in our practice, most patients are “candidates.” Treatment time is typically 6 to 12 months faster than traditional braces. We now offer N-LIne: our exciting new next generation of affordable and faster in-house clear aligners.
