For the last 25 years, I have been so fortunate to have the opportunity to give my Charleston-area patients a beautiful, functional smile they can enjoy for the rest of their lives. Now, I am beginning to treat the children of my former patients!
Being an orthodontist is meaningful to me because of the positive, self-esteem changes I help make in my patients' lives. Meeting and treating people from such different walks of life has given me an appreciation for the true diversity of our area. There is really nothing better than seeing each patient’s excitement the day they get their braces off and see their new smile for the very first time. It’s priceless!
After graduating from Porter Gaud High School in Charleston, I attended college at Tulane University in New Orleans and Boston University in Massachusetts. My dental school training was next and I completed it here in Charleston at the Medical University of South Carolina, where I graduated in the top ten of my class with my Doctorate of Dental Medicine in 1989. I was then accepted into Columbia University in New York City where I received my specialty training in orthodontics, graduating in 1991. After Columbia University, I returned home and began creating new smiles!
Continuing education offers the latest and greatest treatment advancements in all aspects of orthodontics. I am especially interested in the movement of teeth using Invisalign® and the use of Propel® to increase the rate of tooth movement. I am a member of numerous professional organizations that provide me with endless opportunities to further my knowledge, including the American Association of Orthodontists. I have lectured at TP Orthodontics at their Resident's Day event to students of Ohio State University, UNLV, University of Florida, Oklahoma University, Howard University, and a number of others regarding my orthodontic technique using Tip-Edge Plus braces. In April 2018, I lectured to the residents at the Jacksonville University Dept. of Orthodontics.
In the Office
Working with my team is one of the most important reasons why I go to work every day. My staff members have been with me for many years and are dedicated to our patients. They are the first people you will meet and will set you at ease about your clinical and financial concerns regarding getting braces. Their knowledge comes from interacting with patients, parents, and me, and being in an established office. Our two offices are modern, clean, high tech, all Apple, digital, paperless, brightly colored, and spacious.
I was raised in Charleston, SC, and have enjoyed raising my family and building my practice in the community where I grew up. My wife, Cynthia, and I have two children, Ellen and Daniel, two dogs, Pumpkin and Sugar, and chickens. My passions outside of orthodontics are traveling with my family, photography, music, running, and playing the guitar.
