Your First Orthodontic Visit

Welcome to Nirenblatt Orthodontics! We know that choosing orthodontic care is a big decision, and we’re excited to help you achieve a healthier smile. The first step in any orthodontic journey is an initial consultation, and we’re here to make that visit as exciting and stress-free as possible! Let’s take a look at what you can expect from your first appointment with us.

Getting started

In light of the current pandemic, things work a little differently in our office than they used to. The health and safety of our staff and patients is our highest priority, so we’ve incorporated a few changes to our practice for the time being!

When you arrive for your appointment text us to let us know you arrived. We ask that you wait in your car until we call you to come in. Older patients should enter the office alone, and we ask that only one caregiver accompany any children or patients with special needs. Everyone who comes into the office should wear a mask or face covering and use the hand sanitizer we provide at the door. We’ll give you a brief health questionnaire, take your temperature and may have you rinse your mouth with a peroxide rinse.

All of these measures help us keep you healthy, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation! Once we get you inside, we’ll go over your dental and medical history before taking some digital photographs and x-rays of your mouth. After spending some time with our treatment coordinator, you’ll meet Dr. Nirenblatt! He’ll review your photos and x-rays with you, and go over any questions or concerns you have about your smile.

The information that’s obtained from your history, digital images, and your exam will allow Dr. Nirenblatt to determine if orthodontic treatment is indicated for you. Because we never want patients to feel like we’re rushing them through this first visit, you can expect it to last about an hour. That gives us all the time we need to examine your mouth and discuss important topics like:

  • any oral issues you are experiencing
  • if treatment is needed immediately or if waiting is recommended
  • what treatment options are available to correct the problem
  • an estimate of how long we expect your treatment to take
  • the total investment required for treatment
  • any payment or financing options we have available to you

Here at Nirenblatt Orthodontics, we’re proud to provide our patients with customized care based on their unique smile. This personalized approach allows us to consistently produce beautiful and long-lasting results!

What comes next?

If Dr. Nirenblatt determines that treatment is needed and you decide to move forward with it, we can actually fit you for braces or aligners the very same day! If you prefer, we can also schedule you for an appointment to come in and have your orthodontic appliance  fitted at a later date.

Depending on your treatment plan, you’ll have follow-up appointments with us every 4-8 weeks throughout your orthodontic journey. During these visits, we’ll monitor the movement of your teeth and check that everything is progressing smoothly. Dr. Nirenblatt will use this time to adjust your appliance if necessary.

These visits are an essential part of your orthodontic treatment, so try not to miss them. For your convenience, we can perform these check-ups in the office or virtually! If you’re running late or can’t make your appointment for any reason, please let us know as soon as possible so we can reschedule you for another day. This helps us keep your treatment on track!

Throughout your treatment, you should continue to visit your family dentist twice a year for routine checkups and cleanings. If any extra dental care is needed, we will be happy to coordinate with your family dentist to make sure you receive the best possible care across the board.

Your investment in a healthier smile

Every smile is different, and each patient responds to treatment in their own way. Because of this, the total cost of treatment will vary from case to case. When we outline your personalized treatment plan during your consultation, it will include a breakdown of all applicable fees. There’s never any hidden fees with us, and we’ll always ensure you understand the investment required before we begin the active phase of treatment.

Our practice is dedicated to providing patients of all ages with affordable, high-quality orthodontic care. In fact, we’ve helped thousands of Charleston families achieve a confident smile thanks to our custom payment plans! Our financing is done in our office by our staff and not by an outside third party. We also offer a number of discounts, including:

Hometown Heroes discount

We offer a 10% discount off total treatment cost for military personnel, first responders, and educators. Please provide an ID or proof of employment. We appreciate your service to our community!

10% pay in full discount

If you do not need a payment plan and would like to pay for your treatment in full, we offer a 10% cash discount off the total cost of treatment, excluding insurance.

Refer a friend and receive an account credit

For each friend you refer that starts full comprehensive treatment with us, you will receive a credit to your orthodontic account.

Family discount

We offer a second-family member discount for your loyalty to our practice.

We accept most insurance and HSAs. If you provide your insurance information to us by text or email, we can contact your insurance company to predetermine your orthodontic benefits before your consultation. Our team is also happy to file your insurance claims for your convenience!
